Collaborate on the hydrogen programme

I welcome collaboration with experts in physics, mathematics and philosophy. Hydrogen provides a shared problem where conceptual questions can be connected to explicit calculations and precise mathematical targets.

Assumptions, results and research status

A guide to the mathematical research programme.

A concrete system for a shared investigation

The purpose of this section is to make the research accessible enough that another person can identify a useful contribution. You may be interested in the physical source model, operator theory, atomic calculations, quantum foundations or the philosophical meaning of temporal generation. Each perspective can help clarify a different link in the proposed explanation.

A collaboration need not begin with agreement about the whole framework. It can begin with one well-defined question: whether a construction is canonical, whether a proposed limit exists, whether a coefficient is independently fixed, or whether an interpretation adds explanatory content. The status map identifies the main dependencies and open obligations.

To start a conversation, use the main contact page and mention the hydrogen programme, the article or equation of interest, and the contribution you would like to explore. The author page and publication library provide background on the wider work.

Physics: connect a source mechanism to an atomic operator

The leading physical question is how a specified temporal construction produces a relative-coordinate state space, the kinetic term and an attractive interaction with a common normalization. The Coulomb model already supplies a clear benchmark. A source calculation can therefore be judged by concrete outputs rather than by resemblance of terminology.

  • Constituent sectors: construct physical proton and electron degrees of freedom and explain which charge and mass data are supplied.
  • Response and interaction: derive the field response to a source, its distance dependence and the coupling of matter to that response.
  • Preparation and persistence: distinguish a stationary atomic state from the physical process that prepares it or permits it to relax.
  • Spin and radiation: identify the relevant state representations and interaction operators before calculating fine, hyperfine or radiative terms.
  • New contributions: obtain one correction operator and its consequences across several levels, with all fitted quantities identified.

A useful initial deliverable is a short derivation specifying the source update, effective operator, input dictionary and at least two linked atomic quantities. The source-to-Coulomb article and radiative programme locate the principal tasks. [Hydrogen II] [Hydrogen III]

Mathematics: remove an independent assumption

The mathematical programme benefits from results that explain why separately introduced structures must agree. Merely placing a graph, a clock and a Hamiltonian in one formal package does not establish their relationship. A theorem should identify the common mechanism that constrains them.

  • Canonical construction: establish which neutral record sector is selected and show independence from arbitrary relabelling or auxiliary choices.
  • Operator realization: define the domain, self-adjoint realization, lower bound and physically relevant subspaces.
  • Convergence: specify embeddings between finite and limiting state spaces and prove an appropriate resolvent, spectral or dynamical convergence statement.
  • Stability: quantify how the construction changes when regulator choices or admissible source parameters vary.
  • Identifiability: determine whether a proposed atomic correction can be separated from parameter changes already allowed by the comparison model.

A finite counterexample, a rigorous obstruction or a theorem for a restricted but nonempty family can be valuable. Please identify the exact hypotheses used and which independent choice the result removes. The ground-state proof offers a compact example of the level of explicitness intended on this website.

Philosophy: clarify the explanatory connection

The SMM/DTT programme gives temporal generation an ontological role. Its philosophical interpretation should remain connected to the physical and mathematical claims being made. Useful questions concern what is being explained, what counts as an observation and how a proposed generative account differs from a redescription of a familiar effective model.

  • What is the relationship between an inner generative level and a physical clock reading?
  • What kind of persistence is attributed to an atom across completed observations?
  • How should source unity be related to the multiplicity of accessible atomic records?
  • Which aspects of the interpretation depend on a successful physical correspondence theorem?
  • What would count as an explanatory improvement even before a new numerical prediction is available?

Historical connections, including the wider discussion of time and creation in the books, can inform this investigation. An analogy becomes more useful when its conceptual role and its limits are explicit. The philosophy section and book library provide the broader context.

A useful first contribution

A concise contribution can begin with five items: the question, the proposed result, the assumptions, the supporting calculation and the consequences for the existing model. If the result depends on measured constants or fitted data, identify them. If it changes a source rule, explain which previous results continue to follow.

Example research question

Can a fixed family of source-response operators yield an effective −A/r interaction and a relative kinetic coefficient D, with the ratio A²/D determined independently of the hydrogen energy used for comparison?

Useful output: definitions of the operators and readouts, a proof or controlled approximation, a normalization dictionary, and a calculation of both a = 2D/A and E₁ = −A²/(4D). A negative answer should identify the precise freedom that prevents the relation.

For a numerical contribution, include the equations, parameter values, units, convergence checks and sufficient code or instructions for reproduction. For a conceptual contribution, identify the physical claims it bears on. Authorship, attribution and the scope of a joint project can then be discussed explicitly with the author.
